Finishing a Thought the Way the Writer Intended

Paragraph completion gives you part of a passage and asks you to choose the sentence or phrase that logically completes it — testing not just grammar, but your ability to follow an argument, a story, or an explanation and predict where it's naturally heading next.

This is a genuinely different skill from most other grammar exercises, because there's often no single "correct" grammar rule being tested — instead, you're judging tone, logical flow, and consistency with what came before. A technically correct sentence can still be the wrong answer if it doesn't fit the paragraph's direction.

This quiz uses short, self-contained passages so you can practise this skill without needing background knowledge on a specific topic — the answer should always be findable from the passage itself, the same way it would be in a real reading comprehension or paragraph completion exam question.

Read the full passage at least twice before choosing an answer — once for the general idea, and once specifically checking tone and logical connections between sentences. This same "read the whole thing first" skill is also central to our Reading Comprehension Quiz.
